SHE LETS HER HAIR DOWN

Skirt: H&M
Sweater: Costa Blanca

Spring is slowly coming for us. I bet you're all sick of hearing me complain about the weather, so I will stop... for now! For now, I'm just going to enjoy the last wears I have out of this skirt for the season. This was my favourite skirt all winter - I found it to be so versatile with all my outfit choices. Once summer hits, I won't be able to wear it anymore though, because unfortunately it is just the wrong fit to wear without tights! I think the risk of my bum showing would be far too high...

This weekend is Easter weekend, and I haven't celebrated it with my family in 5 years! It always occurs during exam season, so I never came home for the holidays. I'm looking forward to a three day weekend, and seeing my sister and her boyfriend.

I had to run a few errands around the city in the morning today (hence the windblown and tangly hair... it was once pretty and curled!) and I had to stop in at my old elementary school that I went to from first to fifth grades. Everything felt just as they always were. Many of the same teachers, same bulletin boards, etc. I was feeling pretty nostalgic after that.

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

WINTER: I'M SO OVER YOU

Hello again friends! I'm a Canadian girl from the prairies, and sometimes we just like to complain about the weather. It's as simple as that! This post is for me to vent about just how awful our weather has been lately.

Yesterday marked the first day of spring. I've been dreaming about coral lips and fingernails, floral prints, flowy fabrics, lovely skirts, badass shorts, and sandal wedges. Please spring, come soon.

Instead, this is how I look going to work every day. Still. Scrunched, disgusted looking face and all.

And here's how the highway looked this morning a few kilometres west of my town... ugh. Some spring this is. This is the TransCanada (#1) highway, in Canada. And this is what it looked like. It was closed for about 250km.

Closed highways all across the province... gross.

Winter: I'm so over you. Vancouver: I'm more ready for you than ever! See you in three months.

PS I bought a domain for my blog the other day! It was a headache trying to get it running, but I'm really happy I purchased it. I think it will help keep me accountable to keeping my blog updated, because now I pay for it!

PPS I hope to get back to regular posting soon!

(UN)EXPECTED

Riding Pants: American Apparel
Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Sweater: Forever 21

I am SO ready for winter to be over. I can't wait for the day I don't have to warm up my car before I go somewhere, scraping my windshield, wearing parkas and heavy sweaters, and boots. I can't wait for the days of coloured denim, flats, shorts, and air conditioning!

I have been feeling under the weather all week - so I've been living in this super cozy sweater! Very plain Jane.

Spring? Where are you? We have had so much snow lately... and we are getting another snowstorm this weekend! I don't think it will ever end. I'm sick of my winter clothes!

I finally broke out my tripod during my lunch break the other day - that is how I was finally able to end up with an outfit post! It's just too bad that my outfit is so plain and uninspiring... hah! Next time I will be sure actually wear something interesting. You can see my camera remote in my hand, because like a newbie, I forgot to hide it in my pocket before taking the shots.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend! I spent today taste-testing food by a caterer that I am having at an event I'm helping to plan at the end of April. It's a 50s party, with live music, jive lessons, and diner-like food! The chef is amazing though, and is making everything gourmet. I can't wait to continue planning this... it's going to be phenomenal. We are holding it for two nights, so we have to sell about 260 tickets. Should be good!

Take care everyone!

NAILS: MINT & JADE

My latest nail art. I think it's so fun! I'm looking forward to spring coming my way.

Getting anyone to photograph for me has been impossible lately - and by the time I get home from work the lighting is so terrible that I can't take photos of myself! I will make a point to take outfit photos  because I really miss that aspect of my blog. For now, beauty posts are just easier for me to manage.

What kind of fun nail art designs have you been trying lately?

RIMMEL WAKE ME UP CONCEALER REVIEW

I wasn’t completely satisfied with this concealer. I’m not sure if I am expecting too much from it, or if it was just really sheer, but we don’t get along too well. It’s a little bit too yellow for my skin tone – which might actually be alright at neutralizing my dark under eye circles, but it was not perfect for that either. It’s just too sheer.

It does have some nice, fine shimmer which I find to be nice at brightening up my face a little bit – I guess that’s the “Wake Me Up” part about it.

I won’t be repurchasing this, but I will continue to use up this tube, to see if I can find a great use for it in my daily makeup routine.

I reviewed the RimmelWake Me Up Foundation the other day, if you’re interested in taking a look at that post!

Have you tried this concealer? What did you think?

PS I promise I will have an OOTD post soon... seriously!

MAYBELLINE COLOR WHISPER IN PIN UP PEACH REVIEW

I'm back with another beauty review. I was hoping to get a few OOTD posts in the mix, but at work lately I've been wearing band tees, jeans, and Converse because we have been installing a new art exhibition so there is lots of sanding and painting going on, then on the weekend we experienced a bit of a blizzard so I wasn't venturing outside!

I bought this Maybelline Color Whisper lip product after watching some beauty gurus talk about it on YouTube. It was on sale, so I knew I should try one for sure. I was tempted to buy numerous colours, but settled for just one instead, at least until I know if I like it or not.

I'm not completely sold on the product - as you can see from my swatches, it's pretty sheer but definitely buildable. It leaves a bit of a glossy finish, and I find that it wears off pretty quickly. If I were to compare them to another product, I would compare them to the Revlon Lip Butters, but I would say they are more sheer.

A nice thing about this is how light it feels on the lips. It's also a good product for the price. While it's not among my favourite lip colours in my collection I do think I will repurchase in different shades, because I think in summer it will look amazing and carefree with some tinted moisturizer, bronzer, and highlighter for a natural look!

Have you tried them? What did you think?

NYX EYESHADOW BASE IN SKIN TONE REVIEW

I was on the hunt for an eyeshadow base and found the NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone. My eyelids pretty veiny, and in the past I have just covered them with my concealer.

I absolutely love this product. It has a really creamy, smooth, and blendable consistency that allows for nice coverage.

I have read many negative reviews about this product all over the internet, and I believe that the reason for the negative reviews is that many people are hoping for it to act as a primer. But it's not a primer. This is an eyeshadow base. I like to use this with my Urban Decay primer underneath, then I pop this on top, and then finish my eyes as I normally would. It helps diminish the purpleness that my eyelids have, and provides my eyeshadow with better pigmentation.

I don't have problems with this eyeshadow base creasing throughout the day - likely because I don't have oily eyelids.

It's an affordable eyeshadow base that, when used correctly, does its job very well! I'm an NW15 in winter, NW20-25 in summer, and I don't find that it's too dark for my pasty winter skin tone. I also enjoy wearing this base alone when I don't wear shadow, and am just wearing some eyeliner and mascara.

Have you tried this product? Did you like it? Why or why not?

Since moving away from Saskatoon, a city with MAC and Sephora, and all things nice, I decided I needed to start conserving my MAC products a little bit more. I know, I know, I can order online, but I'm also trying to save money for graphic design school. After watching countless reviews of the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation on YouTube - a ton of beauty gurus use it often in their tutorials - I decided to give it a shot.

I went to Shoppers Drug Mart and was pleased to see it was on sale. It was $4 off, so my decision to purchase was instantly made!

I got home, and washed my face right away so I could try it out. I've been using it for four days now, and I have been very pleasantly surprised. I've been applying it with my Beauty Blender from Sephora. It has a slight shimmer to it, but honestly when it's on the skin, I barely see it. I would say it's a medium coverage foundation, but it is definitely buildable. It's very easy to blend.

It feels really light on the skin, and it is very moisturizing. I have dry skin this time of year - though through the day it sometimes gets oily, and this foundation has really helped my skin so far. I set this foundation with my favourite MAC Studio Careblend powder, and it keeps me from getting too oily during the day.

The packaging is very nice too - it comes in a glass bottle with a nice pump. It makes it feel more expensive than it actually is.

It's very good value for the money, and if you're looking for a nice foundation on a budget, then I would definitely recommend this one. I'm going to be using this as my every day foundation, and then I will save my MAC foundations for those special days and my nights out.

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think?
