Designing on iPhone

Recently I have been trying to use my awesome iPhone camera to try to make cool things. I am a big fan of art and design (which I never showcase on here!) and so it is only natural for me to want to use the amazing iPhone for creating things. I have the Adobe CS5 programs on my computer (that was a hefty bill!) but the iPhone can do some pretty interesting things too.

I'm constantly looking for different apps to use. The three photos above were made with Picfx, VSCO CAM, and Fuzel Pro. They were later posted to my Instagram (I'm rrcoolv if you want to follow me) but I didn't use any of the Instagram filters at that time.

What are your favourite photo editing apps? I'm in the market for some more!

SCOUT & CATALOGUE: Spring 2012 Lookbook

This is the dreamy spring 2012 lookbook of Scout & Catalogue. Isn't it divine? I am in love with the colour palette, the overlayed photos, the noisy effect, and the concept.

The pieces are incredibly beautiful, and they remind me of lazy summer days and laidback evenings. I can picture myself wearing each and every item. I want them all!

My best friend and I are looking into starting our own Etsy store soon, so we have been pinning away on Pinterest, with ways we would like to brand, merchandise, and photograph our pieces. We both agree that we will draw our inspiration from Scout & Catalogue.

Stay tuned over the next month or so to see how our online store progresses.

I had a fantastic weekend. Friday night I just relaxed at home, and was a little bit lazy... which was much needed. Saturday, I spent all day with my friend. We visited a micro-distillery (they make 4 fruit liqueurs, vodka, gin, and their whiskey will be ready in 2015). Super cool to see, and everything was so delicious. Saturday night, I went to my friend's birthday party. We had a limo ride and everything.

How was your weekend?

Best of Both Worlds: Brunette and Blonde

Crappy front view iPhone photo

I got my hair ombred yesterday, and I am soo happy with it! I was extremely nervous, because I've never had blonde in my hair before. At first there was (way) too much blonde, but the stylist and I agreed that we should add more light brown to the middle-ground of my hair afterward. I think it turned out great. I'm really nervous for my family to see it though... my dad will probably be all "you have brown hair! Why would you make it half blonde?"

What do I see? The best of both worlds. Now I can see if blondes really do have more fun!

Colour Block Heels

Madden Girl Colour Block Heels

So I bought these heels about a month ago. I got two pairs for $70, and the other pair I got were royal blue and I wore them to my brother's wedding reception. These heels KILL your feet if you plan on doing any dancing or walking... but, oh my goodness, aren't they cute?

I'm scared to try colour blocking in an outfit, so these heels are a good way to achieve the trend.

I think I'm going to wear these out to my friend's birthday on Saturday night, but I'm a little bit iffy on that, because I don't want to be forced to sit all night because my feet are hurting... I think I can suck it up for one night though!

I can't wait to go out on a dinner date-night, where I only have to walk from the car into the restaurant, and back out again. I think they're too high to wear out, but I will give it a try anyway! They're actually surprisingly easy to walk in, they just really hurt the balls of your feet after some time.

Pants: American Apparel Disco Pants
Shirt: American Apparel Sheer Camisole
Bra-thingy: American Apparel faux leather
Shoes: Steve Madden
Turband: vintage scarf
iPhone case: unknown.. but it's so cute, floral, and sparkly!

Sorry, the photos kind of suck! I need to get used to my camera settings to taking photos in the evening. Either that, or I need to find a friend who can take photos for me! I think I would be embarrassed to pose though. For now, it's just me and my tripod.

This weekend it's my friend's birthday party. We're going out to a gay bar (woo! I've never been) and out to dinner before. There's even going to be a limo! I think I'm going to wear these disco pants, some sky-high colour block orange, pink, and red heels, and maybe a light pink sheer shirt (which I have yet to purchase).

Wednesday I'm getting my hair cut and dyed. I am thinking of dying it Miley Cyrus ombre, with a chunk of purple in there somewhere. I'm just ready for a change, and I think that would be so fun. Any tips?

Anyway, I'm going to try to get back into the blogging world. I really miss it -- it's just that taking photos after work is sometimes a little bit difficult.

Thanks for reading!

ASOS Blazers & Disco Pant Sizing

Background by Marina Morales
1. Whistles Renee Slinky Blazer, ASOS, $234.63 CDN

So I'm in the market for a new blazer. I only have one (crazy, right?) and it's a cheap one from H&M with absolutely no structure to it at all. It's not very flattering, and you can tell it was very cheaply made. I think I want one with a burst of colour, or some sort of interesting pattern.

I came across these three on ASOS, and although they're all very different from each other, they all embody something I want in a blazer. The first one I could see myself wearing with a sheer black top tucked into my AA disco pants, and a black wedge. The second one, I envision wearing a white t-shirt and skinny jeans... and the third one would look great with disco pants and simple white tee, with lots of gold jewellery. They're all ridiculously expensive though, so I don't think I will buy any of them! I think I need to dig deep in thrift shops instead.

On my post with blouses, the lovely Toni from The Love Hanger  asked me what size of disco pants I bought, because she has been wanting to buy some. So, I thought I would describe their sizing and mine on here. I bought them in large, and they fit nicely, once I get the zipper done up the whole way (which is a little bit of a struggle). Once done up, they suck everything in and they look really flattering. I tried on the extra large, and they were quite baggy and really really long on me. Normally, I wear a size 10/12 or L/XL in the cheap stores (Forever 21, H&M), then an 8 or M in the more "lady" stores and brands... for example, I bought a Michael Kors dress the other day, and it's an 8, and there's still room for growth -- but let's hope I don't use the extra room. ;)

If anyone has more questions about the disco pants, let me know in a comment! I will try to do a post with them on Monday or Tuesday, then you can see exactly how they look on me. I would do one now, but I'm relaxing at my family cabin right now! :)

Take care,

xo Raquel

Forever 21 Blouses

Background from Marina Morales

So I splurged the other day and finally bought myself a pair of the AA Disco Pants after lusting after them for months and months. They seriously just suck every part of you in and are so flattering, even on my thicker frame! I'm really thick around the middle, and they *still* look nice.

I love the look of sheer blouses with the disco pants, so here are a few I've temporarily added to my shopping bag on Forever 21.

What do you think? What are your favourite shirts to go with the disco pants?

Have a lovely day!

Rider Pride

So, I come from the province of Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan is known for a few things... big skies, flat prairie land, being the new money-making province, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Growing up I always thought about how much I just wanted to get out of here! I didn't realize Saskatchewan was beautiful, and that yes, during the CFL football season, we're all just one big community.

It wasn't until a few years ago that I really embraced Saskatchewan pride, and decided to get into cheering for our province's football team big time! It's a huge sense of pride for the province, and it gets to be a lot of fun when you're excited for the games.

This past weekend I traveled to Regina to go to the Rider game with a few of my friends and my boyfriend, and it was so much fun! I hadn't been to a game in a couple years, and I just had the time of my life. We beat the BC Lions 20-23. It was an intense last couple of minutes at the game.

Anyway, I just wanted to post to let you know I'm still alive, and to let you know that I am a proud Saskatchewanian and Roughrider fan. We sometimes get to be pretty obnoxious...

Here are some crappy iPhone photos of my weekend! I took most of them with the front-facing camera, so they didn't turn out very well.

Roughrider air freshener in my car. Notice the mustard field and giant skies. *sigh* isn't Saskatchewan beautiful? I think so!

Freshly painted nails for game day!

My boyfriend and I all decked out for the game!

Woooo! Let's go Riders!

Excuse my face! I was cheering and excited!

Take care friends! I *promise* to do an outfit post the next time I get home from work while the light is still good. I just bought the AA Disco Pants the other day and I'm in love.

The Past Month: How I've Been Spending My Time

Had a late-night meeting with a friend to do some work, so we had some champagne!

My favourite diner's breakfast! They're located in a double-wide trailer (ha!) and they have a giant, delicious breakfast for $3.75.

I saw Yukon Blonde play! They were amazing.

Delhi 2 Dublin lit up the stage!

A friend of mine learning to fly a stunt kite!

My brother got married in Toronto! This is what I wore for the Hindu portion of the wedding. It was an amazing experience to dress up in a sari and experience that incredible cultural wedding. SO COOL.

With my sister! We decided to get matching saris in different colours!

I even got some henna done!

Soon, I hope to get some photos up from the reception where my sister-in-law wore a white wedding gown. It was a two-day affair! It was a stunning wedding!

I hope everyone is doing well! Sorry I haven't updated in FOREVER! I always seem to do that. I will get better. I promise.
