YOU KNOW WHERE I'M AT

Sorry for the poor quality of photos! I've been having a tough time doing photos at the right time of day! I really wish I would be less shy and could just take my tripod and go out somewhere to do my photos - outdoor ones are so much nicer... Maybe some day! I'm going to Houston TX in 3 weeks, where the weather will be nice!!! None of the Canadian winter!! So while I'm there I'll have my family take photos for me...

Yesterday was a pretty random day... Great - but random. I ended up at a blues club where Big Dave McLean was playing... he's this awesome blues singer/musician from Winnipeg... I just love him! He's playing for free at this club until Saturday, so my friend and I have plans to go back tomorrow.

I have a paper due tomorrow that I'm working on right now, and it's actually a really interesting subject, so I don't think it will take me long to finish it! I'm writing on understanding the power dynamics in local societies in developing countries - so I have to analyze a framework for evaluating development programs and projects. I'm probably the only one who finds this fascinating.... haha

Thanks for reading everyone! All of your comments have made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :)

I'M JUST GONNA DRIVE

Snakeskin print jeans: Gap
Purple t-shirt: Gap
Black sweater: Old Navy
Boots: Spring

Wow, I have been the queen of procrastination again today! I guess I still have quite a bit of time before I go to sleep for the night, but still, I should be doing a lot of homework! I'll get a good start on it soon though! It's just a lazy day - full of homework - so I'm wearing lazy clothes. I love these jeans - snakeskin print is pretty awesome right now - but people always comment on them like they think they're weird. Oh well! I like them and that's what matters.

I couldn't get my hair the way I wanted it this morning! I think I need to wait a few days for it to grow out a little bit before I really like it. It feels so much healthier though! I got sooo many inches cut off.

I made the most incredible egg white omelette for breakfast - I put in kale, spinach, zucchini, onion, red peppers, garlic, tomatoes, fresh basil, cheddar, and parmesan. It was incredibly delicious (and nutritious!)

I hope you're enjoying your Sunday, and may it be less lazy than my own!

HOW I SPENT MY SATURDAY week 02

I think this is one of the best Saturdays I have had in a long time. I woke up pretty early, and went out for breakfast with two of my friends. After breakfast we went to the Saturday Farmer's Market where we walked around and bought some local produce! I bought a beautiful bulb of garlic, some nice onions, and a bunch of fresh basil. After the Farmer's Market we went to a bakery where they use only fairly traded, local, and organic ingredients. I bought a loaf of a power bread made of quinoa, chia seed, hemp seed, and other great-for-you ingredients! After the bakery we headed to a new Mexican market that just opened, where I bought a few Mexican ingredients and some tea! It was a wonderful way to spend my morning.

This morning I called to make a hair appointment. I haven't been able to get a comb or a brush through my hair for a few weeks now, and today was my breaking point! I got so sick of it! So I called for a hair appointment, got in, and chopped off quite a few inches! I'll do a proper outfit post tomorrow where you'll be able to see it, but until then here is a crappy webcam photo of my brand new haircut!

HOW I SPENT MY SATURDAY week 01

Many of my favourite blogs have a "promised" weekly post, and so I thought I'd start one of my own. My Saturday's are usually really different from week to week. Every week, I'll share with you how I am spending my Saturday.

This morning I went to the gym after having a mini-meltdown in the morning. I was just really upset about something. After the gym I cam home, had a shower, put on some cozy clothes because it is FREEZING outside. After I got ready I decided I wanted to make some crème brûlée, because two of my friends gave me a torch for my birthday! So I went out to the store and bought eight ramekins, and some ingredients. I have the in the oven right now! It's my cousin's/roommate's birthday on Monday, so his parents came up for the weekend. I decided I should make something nice for dessert, after we go out for dinner tonight.

Can't wait to use my crème brûlée torch!

WASTED HOURS

Scarf: Forever 21
Wine Cardigan: Joe Fresh
Leopard Cardigan: H&M
Belt: Forever 21
Skirt: H&M
Ring: YSL Arty Ring Knockoff from Ebay

Well it was a very cold day today, hence all the layers. And it was also incredibly dark and cloudy, hence the terrible quality of photos (I can't use my flash on my camera, because then my eyes close). I used to hate winter, but I've kind of been welcoming it this year. I love love love layers. Lots of tights, cardigans, scarves, toques, mittens, headscarves... I love it all!

I have been procrastinating like crazy these past couple of weeks. I've been really disappointed with myself and my lack of motivation to do my school work. I'm kind of just doing the bare minimum right now, and I know I really need to start putting in more effort, before it bites me in the ass.

NOVEMBER GLYMM BOX

In this month's Glymm Box:
A $10 giftcard for Brown's Shoes
Rahua luxury shampoo and conditioner
Lise Watier flash lift radiance serum
Orlane Paris light smoothing cream
Annabelle smudge paint in plum
RGB nail polish in camel

This is my first beauty box! I signed up for two earlier this month, and the Glymm is the first one I've received. I'm quite impressed with the products I received in here. I'm really happy with the full size RGB polish - I have never heard of the brand before, and I'm looking forward to trying it out - especially because I magically received a colour that I don't already have in my massive polish collection!

I'm also looking forward to trying the Rahua shampoo and conditioner. My hair has been terrible unhealthy lately and I will try and buy anything to make it more health. It's an organic hair care system and uses Rahua nut oil. Definitely worth trying!

The Lise Watier flash lift radiance seems neat - especially as we're getting into the colder months of the year. You're supposed to just dab some on the get a nice glow. I think I'll definitely be needing some glow to my skin soon!

The Orlane Paris light smoothing cream is perhaps what I am most excited to try out! My skin has been really dry lately and I really hope it helps me.

The Annabelle smudge paint intimidates me. I love the colour it came in (plum), but it's so BOLD. It came in a full size bottle, which is really nice. I really want to try it, but I have a feeling I'll be using it as a gel liner more than an eyeshadow - only because I can never find a proper occasion to wear that dramatic of eye makeup. I'll have to try it out one night when I am at home though - just to see what it looks like!

I'm really happy with my first ever Glymm box! Are you in Canada? Have you signed up to receive Glymm boxes yet? They're only $10/month and so totally worth it!

Thanks for reading. xo.

PHOTOS: My Summer in Zambia

The following are a few photos from my summer I recently spent in Zambia. I was working there for four months, and the first half of my placement I spent living in the village, and learning all about family life, the way they farm, and working on a project/system for the company I was placed with. It was an incredible experience - one that I will never forget. Enjoy the photos!

I think she is just the most beautiful little girl. She worked incredibly hard - always doing her morning chores of sweeping, fetching water, and cooking breakfast for the younger children. I've never been so proud to know someone. She has a bright future.

She loved to wear my glasses!

A grandmother with her grandchildren. They have the most beautiful "chitenge" fabrics there, that women always wear around their waists. So pretty. It's really a beautiful culture.

Working hard to store this year's maize harvest. These women are very hard workers.

BEAUTY REVIEW: Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette (in Saint)

Purchased from Sephora - Cost (in Canada) $45

I bought this lovely palette from Sephora about a week ago. I thought the colours in it were absolutely beautiful. Since I've purchased it, I haven't attempted to do a smoky eye, because I haven't had the chance to go out at night. I have used all of the soft colours for my every day makeup, and I have to say, it applies really nicely and the hues are beautiful. My favourites are the middle ones: champagne, gold, and taupe.

I really like the packaging, and the fact that it has a nice big mirror, which I know will come in handy when traveling. It also came with this really nice black eyeliner. I would compare the consistency of the eyeliner to using pastels or charcoal in art class in grade school. It's just a really nice, smooth, application.

It also came with a free sample of the eye primer. I haven't tried the sample yet, because I am waiting for when I apply a lot of makeup - likely a smoky eye - for a night out. It's quite reasonably priced (I think around $15) so if I do like the quality - which so far I am impressed by Kat Von D makeup - I will definitely purchase it.

I wasn't able to get any good portraits today, as the lighting in my room has been really shotty. We had our first snowfall of the season overnight, and the sky is really clouded over and grey, so the natural light is awfully terrible today. If I get a good portrait on my next outfit post, I'll be sure to refer back to this post.

SHUFFLE A DREAM

Sweater: Forever 21
Scarf: Forever 21
Skirt: H&M
Rings: jwlry

I am so sore today!  I went to Hour of Power yoga last night - which was an hour of strength training - and I'm a beginner, so it was pretty difficult!  Then this morning I got up early and went to the gym.  I know it will pay off, but I'm pretty sore for right now.

I'm supposed to meet a friend for coffee this afternoon, and then I'm cooking supper with another friend tonight.  A Mexican import market just opened here, so I think I'll go have a look at what they have there, too.  It's a nice relaxing weekend - not doing anything crazy.  I enjoy weekends like this.

It's starting to get colder, and I've been buying quite a few sweaters!  I think dresses and skirts with sweaters overtop will be my staples for winter.

SKIPPING STONES

Sweater: Romwe
Skirt: Forever 21
Rings: jwlry

Motivation and energy are both really low today.  I'm just not in the mood to really do anything productive these past few days.  I think it might be a mix of me still being exhausted from spending all weekend doing homework with few breaks and tests and papers nonstop on Monday and Tuesday, and a little bit of reverse culture shock.  I spent May through August (so, four months) working and living in Zambia.  I've always been told that reverse culture shock is worse than culture shock itself, and I haven't really begun to feel it until now.  I hope it gets better soon, because I need to start focusing on school and extra-curricular activities again.  I think I try to spread myself too thin, and then I get so frustrated that I just shut down when I am unable to complete it all.

I made the most delicious omelet for breakfast today!  I sauteed some yellow bell pepper with some onion, and used a really nice curry powder for about 7 minutes, then I removed it from the pan and added my egg, then I added the pepper and onion back in the pan on top of the egg, and sprinkled some aged cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan on top, then folded it together.  It was to die for!  I should have taken some photos.

Anyway, here is my outfit post!  The one thing I don't really like about this Romwe sweater is that it is a little bit too short for my liking, especially when I raise my arms or anything.  Something I love about it, on the other hand, is the breast pocket!  Love it!
